Icad
For development to continue, we need programs that are increasingly advanced, programs derived from industrial or aeronautical use. A decisive factor in this sense was the choice, in 1998, to create the ICAD (International Consortium for Advanced Design), of which the Energy Faculty of the University of Florence is a fundamental part. The ICAD serves to foster exchanges of information and experience among industries, research centres and academic institutions. At the base of it all is powerful Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) software that makes it possible to analyse hulls, keels, aerofoils, and sail plans, in experimental layouts. Computers are used to simulate tank or wind tunnel tests.
But it doesn’t end here: research is constant, for example, in the design area too, looking at ergonometry, the division of space, elements of translation and on to the use of new finishing materials. This group of factors allows Vismara to create craft with the ability to combine great usability with cutting-edge concepts concerning structure and hydrodynamics. In short then, we are continuing to push the boundaries towards the concept of fast cruising yachts with the same basic design base as regatta craft.

Navigo
NAVIGO is a consortium limited liability company, set up to provide services to businesses in the boat industry, with the general aim of re-launching their competitive status. There are currently 36 companies, 2 Trade Associations (Association of Industrialists of the Province of Lucca and CNA Lucca), the Chamber of Commerce for Lucca, the Municipal Authority of Viareggio, and the Province of Lucca. Navigo is also a reference point for other important stakeholders in the area (Banks, Consortiums, Trade Union organisations and Service companies).
NAVIGO is part of a context that strongly features the main production and supply chains for Italy’s pleasure craft industry. Viareggio, in particular, is responsible for building 20% of the mega yachts (yachts above 24 metres in length) on the world market every year. This market dominance has had the front-line effect of creating a vast network of SMEs that can guarantee a highly experienced, competitive production model.
